Serena Williams. Amazon. Goddess. (Tennis Player)
As part of an illustration series called "Magical Beings," Serena was one of the firsts on my list.
If she only was around when I was 10 years old! I was always last to be chosen for any team in school because of my small size and very non-athletic ways. In fact, I was always asked if I was playing for the other team because of my extreme non-abilities!
Today, thirty-plus years of yoga, teaching yoga, becoming a runner and bike rider, (plus several creative boyfriends here and there)... I finally own my body's beauty and strength.
We all know how vastly important it is for girls to "own" their bodies. This portrait of Serena Williams, in her athletic glory...and fishnets and platforms...is in celebration of that power.
